There’s something about Clermont.
Not just for those of us lucky enough to live here, but also for those who once did live here. Being homesick for Clermont is a fair dinkum condition and we’re going to try to explain what makes it such a special place…
Carolyn says:
“Driving into Clermont is like being embraced in a warm welcome-home hug, and I don’t think a bigger compliment could be given to a community! This is where we belong!”
What could it be?
It could be the bumps in the main street that instantly remind you where you are.
It could be because it’s the only place you can get the world renowned chips and gravy from Penny’s Plaza Cafe.
It could be because Frank and Annie (ABC’s Muster Dogs series one winners) live here, and Frank’s authenticity and love for his dogs won hearts around the world.
Or it could be because PBR champions - our tough yet humble bull riders Aaron Kleier and Brady Fielder call Clermont home.
For us, it’s all those things and…
it’s the people you meet and greet when you walk down the street
it’s Grant at the chemist who’s welcome and laugh always makes us smile, even when we don’t feel well
it’s the coffee and ambience of Lotta Latte’s and the fact that they know exactly how you like your coffee made or your eggs cooked
it’s the madness, the mayhem, and the meat tray raffles at the Leo Hotel on a Friday night raising funds for the CQ Rescue Helicopter
it’s the Clermont Telegraph, which gives a voice to Clermont and a tangible way to share our stories for generations to come
it’s the cars slowing down on Drummond Street to let the geese and ducks cross the road
it’s the Wombat Festival and the Coal Gold Festival, where we celebrate the history and uniqueness of our town
it’s Wolfang Peak and Lord’s Table Mountain, rugged and imposing natural features of the Peak Range National Park
it’s Theresa Creek Dam, offering more than just water to our town, with camping, skiing, sailing, fishing, and a serene getaway just minutes from town
it’s the ANZAC Day parades when the whole town stops on the banks of the Lagoon under the majestic gum trees to reflect and remember the sacrifices of our soldiers
it’s the passionate people who get together and volunteer to do things to make our town better
it’s because we care about our people from their first breath to the last
it’s the community who drop everything and comes together when someone needs our help
it’s because we celebrate our wins, we mourn our losses, and we do it together.
